The Word On The Street celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trillium Book Award/ Prix Trillium with recent and past award-winners including Marguerite Andersen ( La mauvaise mère), Didier Leclair ( Toronto, je t’aime), Michèle Matteau ( Passerelles), and more.

Actor, improviser, and screenwriter Florian François and singer-songwriter Cyril Mignot will host the popular Franc’Open Mic, a free slam poetry workshop in French followed by a special slam poetry contest on stage. A French riddle challenge from Alliance Française Toronto will be open for new or fluent French speakers of all ages and finalists will be invited on stage for an opportunity to win prizes. A brand new Mini TFO show will hit the stage with more fun nearby on festival grounds. The TFO Franco Stage will also feature literacy-focused learning for the whole family. Prix littéraire des collégiens winner and Governor General’s Literary Award finalist Daniel Grenier ( L’année la plus longue) will share the stage with Prix des libraires 2017 winner Stéphane Larue ( Le plongeur), to discuss their award-winning debut novels in the ‘Voyager dans le temps/Past Lives’ panel discussion. The TFO Franco Stage will feature presentations with Franco-Canadian authors such as Monia Mazigh ( Du pain et du jasmin), known publically for her efforts to free her husband Maher Arar from a Syrian prison in 2002 prolific author Michel Noël ( Le Pensionnat), who has dedicated his life to promote the rich cultures of Indigenous Peoples and award-winning novelist Chrystine Brouillet ( À qui la faute?), known for her Maud Graham series.
