and i decided not to make him british because that felt kind of boring and not french because i was watching interview with the vampire at the time and lestat casts a long shadow over fiction vampires so that left russia as his country of origin. and then i was like okay i want to explore class in his background so he’s either going to be french, british, or russian because those are countries with significant aristocratic history that i feel like i know enough about that i don’t have to do a ton of extra research. Probably the funniest thing about the writing process for vampire prescription story is that when i was creating vasily’s character i was like all right i want him to be kind of a classical vampire archetype so he’s going to be from europe.
